BLIGH'S ROAD SCHOOL.
* FURTHER ACCOMMODATION ' WANTED. DEPUTATION TO WAIT ON BOA,RD. A meeting of Papanui householders was held last night, in the Main School, Papanui, to discuss the need of increased accommodation at Bligh's road school. Mr R. A. Patrick was in the chair, and there was a good atten 7 dance. The chairman said a petition had been circulated praying for an enlargei ment of the Bligh's road school. They wanted another room or two built on the school, and he had no doubt that tho Education Board, when it received the petition, would do its utmost t-o accede to the request. Mr F. Crosbie said that the local School Committee had tried it* utmost to benefit the main Papanui school, as well as the Bligh's road school, but the Education Board had simply replied that such improvements as recjuestcd could not be effected. The Rev. F. Rule said he had been informed that tho main school was as full as it could be, and some Papanui children had gone to the Elmwood school. The householders only asked that better accommodation should be provided for the children at Bligh's road, so that 'they would not be overcrowded. Tho chairman said the main school could not bo said to be overcrowded. The secretary of the Papanui School Committee, Mr L. H. Witherington, said that the people of Papanui had held numerous meetings regarding 'the matter under discussion, but lie held the opinion that the Education Department and Board were simply side-tracking them. The people of Papanni ought to "shoulder their arms and charge for all they are worth." Mr Crosbie moved that the petition be sent on to the Board of Education. .Mr Elm seconded the motion,which, was carried. _ • A deputation, consisting of Messrs —. King, F. Crosbie'W. E. Smith. R. A. Patrick. —. Franklin, and the Rev. F. Rule, was appointed to wait on the Board with the petition. Several other matters affecting the Bligh's road school, including the drinking-water supply, school gardens, and 'the approach, were discussed, and it was eventually decided that the deputation appointed should interview owners of property facing on the approach, and also bring the matter before the Education Board. The same deputation was appointed to Tiring before the Board the question of boundaries of school districts in the vicinity of Papanni. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the chairman and those who signed the petition, and the meeting then closed.
