V AMERICAN STEAMER'S FATE. (By Cable—Ficss Association—Copyright.) (Renter's Telegrams.) (Received February 25th, 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, February 24. The steamer Florizel, bound from Halifax to New York, was wrecked in a blizzard. ' One hundred and forty-five lives were | lost. The Florizel was built in 1909, and, had a tonnage of 3081. The Florizel ran ashore in a snowstorm. t A heavy eea prevented rescuers from approaching. The vessel was quickly pounded to pieces. It is believed that 156 were lost. The disappearance of the head of a military hospital at Nice named Vachier has led to the discovery that the man was in reality a druggist's assistant with no medical qualifications. In 1915 Vachier was. a private, but by means, it is supposed, of forged papers he got himself sent to Nice as an assistant nitedical officer. He was soon promoted and finally put in charge of a" group of three hospitals. Vachier was a brilliant talker, and, so far from suspecting his incompetence his chiefs had recommend, ed him for the Legion of Honour. JARS AT MINSON'S.
