Lang, of Saltwater Creek, has received tho following lotter from Private E. Topp, relativo to tho death of her son, Private J. Lang:—"lt is with a heavy heart indeed that I am writing to-day to tell you, the circumstances of your poor Jim's death. You can take it from mo that during his short term with us in Franco he soon won by his unselfish and unassuming manner the greatest esteem of all who knew him. He was a good and careful . soldier, and a grand mate out of the trenches, and a bravo and reliable one in thcni. I-li.-} death, and also that of another good mate, C. Dann, has knocked the heart right out of our platoon. Wo were out as a carrying party early on the morning of December 17th, when a shell landed right in the centre of th;> lino of us, a pieco of it entered Jim'r> head, and lie never moved, again. C. Dann died after wo got him to the dressing station. Two others wore also wounded. worrit? and myself carried Jim to tho dressing station, whore ho would bo deccntly buried l>y the padre. He and C. Dann are buried at; a place called 'Tho Butte.' Yon should get his belongings in due course fioni the padre. In conclusion, the 13th Company 3rd C.1.8. wish mo to convey to you and Mr Lang their deepest sympathy in tho loss of such a brave son. D. T.'tn;r. who accompanied his brother in the 13th Reinforcements, and who was *.".!*nitted t'< tsroekenhurst Hospital in Octchcr.
