TREATMENT OF PRISONERS. LONDON, February 24. Australian wounded soldiers repatriated from Turkey endorse tbc previous accounts of the cruelty of the Turks to prisoners. They flatlv contradict the statement that the Turk is a clean fighter. The usual punishment for a' petty crime is to tie the prisoner, head downwards, and lash his feet with raw-hido whips. One returned man declared that the Germans in Turkev were the prisoners' onlv friends, probably because the Turks hate the Germans, and vice versa. The Germans regard the whites as a tie between themselves and the Fatherland. INDIA LOYAL. GREAT WAR ENTHUSIASM. (Renter's Telegrams.) SIMLA. February 24. Tho keenest interest is growing throughout India in everything pertaining to tho war. All her strength is gradually being brought to tho aid of the Empire and its Allies. Women aro playing an increasingly important part in war work. The latest recruiting figures disclose a remarkable enthusiasm among the fighting classes, and tho flow of contributions from Indian princes and rulers continues unabated.
