A cable message from Melbourne states tha,t Wedge's time, lrnin 27see, in the Caulfield Futurity Stakes; on Saturday, is a record for the race. - The previous best was lmin 27£ sec, which was roistered by Maharajah in 1916, Flash of Steel in 1915, Eudorus in 1913, and Blairgour in 1911. Iticcarton stables are represented i ll the nominations for the Wairarapa R.C.'s Autumn Meeting, to be held on March 14th and 15th. Among those engaged are Adjutant, Brambletye, Gamecock, Ascalaphus, Comely, Harlequin, and Carol Singer. J. A. White has been appointed priI vate trainer to the Dunedin owner, Mr L. C. Hazlett. This appointment has been made in consequence of Mr Hazlett having replanned the general arrangements for working the Salisbury Estate, in consequence of which it has been deemed advisable to make the blood stock a separate department, with a married man in charge. White will have only Take Down for immediate racing, but a number of youngsters hitherto unbroken, are to be his chief caro. Mr W. J. Douglas, a well-known Hawke's Bay sportsman, died' on Saturday, aged 48, after an illness of some duration. He was the eldest and only surviving son of the late Mr W. Douglas, of Te Mahanga Station, and had always been a staunch supporter, of racing, both as a breeder and an owner of racing stock. While he was at school at Hastings he was represented on the race track by King Jtose, and for a number of years he had a team of horses in work .under the caro of J. Munn at Hastings. One of the best horses he bred was Kopu. who won the Hawke's Bay Guineas. Mr W. S. Spence has been appointed acting-secretary of the Auckland Racing Club. At the conclusion of the Dnnedin Meeting Mr A. Chisholm purchased Kil. brogan from 2\lr. George Henry, the price being reported as 250 guineas. Mr D. P. Among the races won by the son of Handsome Jack were the North Taranaki Hunt Cup, Woodlands Steeplechase, and Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase at the Wellington Spring ing(Bt "Searchlight.") The track at Addington is beginning to present a, busier appearance than has been the case during the past few weeks. Yesterday C. James, A. Cox, I. Nelson, T. G. Fox, C. Rhodes, J. McKendry, G. Anderson, R. Pearse, J. J. Wright, C. Johnston, E. Berry, and J. McDermott, each gave their charges useful exercise. F. Holmes was a visitor to Addington yesterday with Happy Jack, Billy Parole, and Star Queen, and gave the trio solid work. G. Anderson is working a promising three-year-old gelding -by Huia Dillon from rial Tasker. I'ne youngster is a natural pacer, and is already showing some promise. The aged pacing gelding Aberfeldy was sold at auction on Saturday for £lb. After a twelve months' spell, the trotter Electrocute has again joined tho active brigade. He is being got ready for racing by J. J. Wright, who has been very succcssful with the Electioneer gelding. C. Rhodes lias decided, for the future, to race Cousin Jenny In hopples. Already the Galindo mare is showing promiso with the straps on. Ncw arrivals at C. James's stable are a four-ycar-oid pacing mare by i»othsclild —Sound Sense, uam of Cnub, and a natural pacing yearling filly by Logan Pointer from a Rothschild mare, botli the property of Mr McClure.
