PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr J. Dickson, M.P., and Dr. Reakes, were passengers from Wellington bv yesterday's ferry steamer. Major-General Sir Alfred Robin accompanied by Captain Bryan, military secretary, SDent yesterday in Christchurch, after his arrival irom JJunedin. and left for Wellington m the evening. Mr F. Williamson, a returned soldier, has been appointed financial organiser to the Dominion Boy Scout Council, Mr Innes-Jones having resigned owing to pressure of priyate business. John Williamson Dryden Hall, Shoolhousc, Christ's College, whose name appeared in tho First Division list of the Military Service Ballot, printed on Tuesday, is at present on sactive service in France. When ho left Christ's College, over a year ago, he went to England (where his father, Mr J. D. Hall, is at present residing) and joined the Officers' Training Corps. At a meeting of the North Brighton Burgesses' Association, on Wednesday, the following resolution was passed: — •'•That the North Brighton Burgesses' Association records, with sorrow, the death of the late Mr Edwin John Palmer, one of the oldest pioneers of the district, who as a man was honoured and esteemed by all who knew him. This Association also extends its sympathy to Mrs Palmer in her great loss." Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. Pilkington, formerly Ad jutant-General to the Now Zealand Forces, now occupies a position of somo distinction with the British Expeditionary Force in France. In England, Lieutenant-Colonel Pilkington took a very exact course of ordnance, and tho excellent training he received has stood him in good stead. He is now assistant Director of Ordnance with the 19th Army Corps, and considers himself fortunate, inasmuch a& few officers attain such a position without graduating through a division. When he wrote in December, Lieutenant-Colonel Pilkington was in excellent health and spirits. The officers and staff of tho C.D.C. met yesterday afternoon, when Mr Geo. Harper, President of tho Corps, asked Mr Charles Wood to accept, on behalf of his son, Captain Derislev T. Wood, of the N.Z.E.F., a present of rustless cutlery, which was subscribed for by the members, the occasion being the approaching marriage of Captain Wood to Miss Phillips* of Auckland, who was on the V.A.X>. Nursing Staff in Egypt, and recently returned to the Dominion. Captain Derisley Wood, tfho is shortly being discharged on account of wounds received on active service, is being absorbed in the Home Service branch of the Now Zealand Defence Staff.
