RACING AtfD TROTTING NOTES. (By ''Looker-Ox.") The work at Riccarton yesterday was not very interesting. The tracks had dried >up a lot, the inside grass being open, as well as the plough and tan, but few of the trainers seemed anxious to break records. Most of the horses who raced at Wingatui last week were kept to easy pacing. Comely and Thames rattled over six furlongs in company. There was not much between them at tho end. Gamecock had Sir Fanciful as a companion in a half-mile sprint. Tho pair finished on terms, after a fair performance. Carol Singer sprinted in smart style, showing plenty of pace. Don Francisco got through useful work. Afterglow and Kilalla ran half a milo together, both juveniles moving very Ireelv. Disdainful reeled off six furlongs, finishing very strongly, but still moving below her best form. Asc&laphus did strong work. Ho will probably be sent South for the Gore Meeting. Jeannot finished well in a gallop over six furlongs, in which he was brought home by Tyne. Subterfuge wont in her best style in & six furlong spin, and she should soon break her long spell of bad luck. Daytime and Kilrush sprinted half a mile together, there being littlo to choose between them at tho finish. Gay Lad was worked over six furlongs, and made a good showing, going on well at the end of his task. Tremena was given steady work over i\ couplo of circuits. Sue looks in good order. Marc Anthony made his reappearance, and did half-pac© work. Hk> bears marks of his exploit in the water last week, when he had a narrow escape from drowning near Redcliffs. He is now being looked after by R. Hart, who will remain at Riccarton with him till the Canterbury Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting is concluded. Margerine was not out yesterday. She" is all right, but is having a slight let-up after her winning effort in tho Dunedin Cup. R. W. King has taken Zuland in hand again, after' a spell of a few months. Kaminohe is being hacked, in preparation for a resumption of training. C. Emerson was on the course yesterday, but ho was not riding work. He has practically recovered from his accident at Te Ivuiti. but, acting on doctor's orders, lio will do no riding at present, though he expects to be fit for engagements at the Akaroa County Meeting. I?. J. Mason has just received the yearling colt, by Solforino —Anitea, which Mr G. D. Greenwood bought at tho November sales. Acceptanccs for the Al;aroa County Racing Club's Annual Meeting close at 5 p.m. to-day with tho secretary of the Canterbury Jockey Club. Biplane was making his first appoarancc in the Dominion as a three-year-old when lie won the Jackson Stakes at Wanganui yesterday. Tho report indicates that he won easily, proving that the interruption of his work, brought about by his injured foot, had not caused him to lose form. Mr | Greenwood lias an excellent record in connexion w'ith tho Jackson Stakes, which ho had previously won with Armlet, Emperador (twice), and Bimeter, whilo he was part owner of Vice-Admiral when that horse won in 1911. Client, who won the Wanganui Cup yesterday, was successful in that race last year, when ho carried 7st 91b, 101b less than he had yesterday. His only win in tho interval between his two Wanganui Cup victories was in the Wainui Handicap, at the Wellington Spring Meeting, but he ran second in each of tho principal events at tho Manawatu Summer Meeting in Decembor. It. McSeveny, the well-known Riccarton horseman, has been discharged from tho CI Camp. T. Metcalfe, the English light-weight, who was attached to the Highden stable when he was sent into tho CI Camp, also failed to stand up to the test, and has received his discharge. (By "Seahchlight.") Merry Soul, who won a double at the Marlborough. Trotting Club's Meeting on Wednesday, is a three-year-old son of King Cole and Lady Lucy, and trained at Addington by H. Fox. In his second racc he was penalised 24yds, but won in nice style, and is evidently a colt of promise. Serenity, by Galindo —Lady Linton, made her first appearance at the Nelson Trotting Club's Meeting last week, when she started twice, and ran second each time. She was made favourite in each race, and on Wednesday, at Blenheim, she received most support in the Marlborough Handicap. In this race she shaped very indifferently, and was one of the first beaten. The Wanganui Trotting Club's Annual Meeting, which will be held today, should produce some interesting racing. Several Canterbury norses are engaged, and as the opposition does not appear particularly strong, they should bring back some of the stake money. "WANGANUI J.C.'S AUTUMN" MEETING. WANGANUI, February 21. . CUtent'a win in the Cup was most popular, jockey and horse being loudly cheered on returning to the enclosure. Speculation was decidedly brisk, and although hundxoda of pounds wcro shut out of the totalisator, tho turnover was £497-i ahead of last yeaar's figures, There were no scratchings in the westmere Hurdles. Arlington and Glendalough wero tho best support-ed. On more than one occasion, Glendalough looked all over a winner, but took her jumpa too high, and lost a lot of ground. She mado a slight mistake at the. last hurdle. Once on the flat sho finished strongly, but could _ not reach Collector or Arlington. The winner, Collector, fenced cleverly, and waa _ always handy. Arlington ran well under his heavy weight, ar.d was ridden right out- Styrax displayed poor form, Sir Solo and Portlaod Ludy went well f'or three-parts o£ the journ<*y*. Tho race should do Glendalough good. Only a trio in Biplane, Hymcstra, and Finmark faced the starter in the Jackson Stakes, tho first-named being sent out a strong favourite. All three left in a line. Finmark at once took charge, closely followed by" Biplano and Hymestra. At the end of five furlongs Finmark was done with, and Biplane went on and won with something in hand. His display was full of merit, rtid proved him a high-class colt. Hymestra did not look at his best, evidently not having quite recoved from his xccent accident. All started in the Cup. There was plenty of money for Menclaus, Client, Snub, and Dingle. The light-weight. Tressida, piloted tho field along for nine furlongs, when sho retired well beaten. Client, the winner, was always handy, and a furlong from home put in his claim, and won nicelv, thus placing a second Wanganui Cup to his credit. Prior to the start he waa sweating profusely, but this did not affect his galloping in the race. Wishful went a j good race, the distance being just beyond the. Boniform ho««. Better placed in the earlier etages, Menelaus would certainly have troubled the winner. At the finish he was galloping much fasteir than anything in the race, and should not "ho long in winning a good handicap over a. distance. Saeanof looked well, but was never prominent. He pulled up lame. Snub was beaten at the end of a mile, while Almo, Master Moutoa, Dingle, and Lady Beaufort found the distance too far. _ _ . . Sixteen went to'the post, m the Flying Handicap. Croesus carrying nearly twice aS much money as anything else. Along witn Lingerie he showed the way into the straight. Here tho field closed up, and Koesian shot out and won easily. W-pimatoH also put in a fast run on the rails, and gained second place. Form Up and Nanna showed no form at all. HANDICAPS FOR. SECOND DAY. AUTUMN Ha.
