MEETINGS AND SOCIALS.
CONGREGATIONAL DISTRICT COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Congregational District Committee the Rev. Allen Job occupied the chair. A vote of symfathy with the widow of the late Mr W. E. ngiis, one of the deacons of Trinity Church, was carried in silence. X lonjj letter from the Ashburton Mission was left in the liands of the District Committee to consider with the Union Committee, at tho annual meeting. In regard to the luncheon for the visiting delegates and those attending the Union meetings, it wae agreed that the church secretary be empowered to make the most satisfactory arrangements. The agenda paper for the annual meetings was laid on the table. The local executive is as follows: —Chairman, Rev. H. A. Job: treasurer, Mr W. Congreve; secretary. Rev. W. Tanner. S.P.C.A. At a meeting of the committee of tho Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to AnimaJa, Mr D. J. White, the newly-appointed Inspector, presented his first report. It was reported that it was cruel to stock shipped from the Chatham 3 to Lyttelton to be left in tho pens on the wharf for 24 hours or more after arrival before being watered or fed. It was decided t-o thank the North New Brighton Gala Committee for withdrawing the Greasy Pig Hunt from its programme.
