OBITUARY.

MR ARTHUR HIGHT

The news of the death of Mr Arthur E. Hight, of Brookside, which took place on Wednesday morning, was received in all parts of the Ellesmere district with very keen regret, for the late Mr Hight was a man whom everybody respected and" esteemed. ' His end came after a very brief illness. A regular attendant of the Brookside Methodist Church, of which he was an officebearer, Mr Hight drove to church on Sunday morning, along with his wife. He remarked that he was not feeling well, and that he thought he was getting influenza, and on that account he did not go into the church, but remained outside until the service was over. He drove the car home, and afterwards went to bed. A little later on he became unconscious, and did not recover. Cerebro-spinal meningitis is stated to have been the cause of death. For many years Mr Hight was engaged in farming at Brookside in partnership with his 'brother, who left for the front in the early part of the year. The Messrs Hight were well-known for many years as breeders* and exhibitors of Shorthorn cattle, and Mr Arthur Hight was regarded as a most capable judge. He was a valued member of the General Committee of the Ellesmere A. and P Association for many years, and the flag over tie secretary's office at the show on Thursday was flown at halfmast, as a mark of respect to his memory. There was a very large attendance at the funeral, which took place at Brookside yesterday afternoon, the cortege including over 30 motorcars. The Rev. W. Laycock, of Leeston, conducted the burial service. The late Mr Hight leaves a widow and two sons, the eldest son being 16 years of age.
