The War Records branch of the Commonwealth Office in London is m the midst of useful work designed to giro _ other generations of Australians a faithful picture of the Australians of our own generation at war. Following the lead of the British authorities by which British artists have been sent to work at the front, it has now been decided to allow Australian painters to establish themselves in Australian areas of war with a view to pictures of the great scefles through' which Australian soldiers are living. The scheme provides for the despatch of two artists who will stay three months. Their drawings and sketches will be the property of the Commonwealth Government, bat • they will have for themselves incalculable material for future pictures. Mr Fred Leist and Mr Power aro now in France under this scheme, and other artists will follow in turn.
