FACILITIES FOR AFFORDING INFORMATION.

A circular letter, addrossed by the Imperial Institute Committee for New Zealand to commercial and agricultural organisations in the Dominions, ,sets out the facilities the Institute now possesses for affording information respecting raw materials, and their value for commercial purposes. The New Zealand i committee includes tho Hon. Sir Thomas f ! Mackenzie (chairman), Messrs J. Coates, J. C. N. Grigg, R. D. D. McLean and R. N.'Nolan. Lord Islington, chairman of tno Executive Council, and JL'rotessor Wyndham R. Duostan, Director of the Imperial Institute, are ox-oiiicio members of the committco.

The principal objects of the itufieriol Institute arc—(.l) to assist prouacers oversoau to tind'appropriate openings for raw materials aud primary manufactures, and (2) to lunnsh manuiacturers throughout the Einpiro with information as to the sources of supply within the Empire of raw materials which they need. The Institute in its several departments possesses; an expert staff, with special knowledge of the various raw materials, and tneir industrial and commercial value. Another special staff is devotod to .mineral work. A valuable adjunct to tho Institute's work is provided by the exhibition galleries, in which are included exhibits of the pastoral, agricultural, forest and mineral resources of New Zealand. It is intended, in addition to bringing up to date and maintaining collections, to arrange for special exhibitions of raw material throughout the country, in cooperation with the Chambers of Commerce. Among the questions of interest to New Zealand now under consideration are the utilisation of waste in tho production of New Zealand flax, possibilities of the extension of the use of kauri timbsr in the United Kingdom, utilisation of waste wood and sawdust, and the recovery of potash frdm woolwashing liquors. Enquiries will be welcomed about New Zealand raw materials and primary manufactures, and as to the provision of possible markets for such articles in the United Kingdom and othor parts of tho Emoire.
