LOCAL BODY LOANS.
AX INTERESTING POINT.

WELLINGTON, April 12. A point of interest to local bodies was brought before the Acting-Prime Minister (Sir Jame s Allen) to-day. Some timo ago the Eastbourne borough ratepayers authorised a loan of £4500 for water and drainage purposes, but owing war conditions the money cannot be raised within tho two years, allowed bv Statute. The deputation ti> Sir James Allen suggested that the Governirjsnc should introduce legislation providing that for purpose of reckoning the too years mentioned as tho war period should not count. Sir James Alien promised to consult Cabinet on the matter recognising the case as one of the hardships deserving relief, but said the question of making general provision to cover all loans in suspense needed careful consideration. In some cases it might bo desirable to,have another poll-of ratepayers.
