4 A WELLINGTON HOTEL DESTROYED. (rnr.ss association* tki.egram.) WELLINGTON, April 12. •V fatal fire, occurred early tiiis niorning when the Wellington Hotel at the corner of Sydney street and Moicsv.ortii street was practically destroyed. Tho building had about * twenty' inmates at the time, several being Maoris, but all escaped with tho exception of Patrick Twohil), a well-knoTvn identity. 74 years of age, who was burned to (lea tli. Tlie nrc is suppose;! to have had its ■."•rigin in the sitting room, tho thv.ny being that it wAs caused by a cigarette or lighted match. The building was about half o tury old. and was owned by Staples nrj Co.. brewers. It was insured in the Atlas Co. for £22-30. and tlie contents in Hie Commercial Oflico for £,j(JO. Ti;c licensee is M. Ryan. Trie fire swept ri'ilit through the ond storey of the hotel, where the bedrooms were located.
