Another mau was charged with drunkenness, but as it was stated that ho liad been handed over to tho military authorities, tho case was dismissed. BREACH OF ORDER. Florenec Edith Bell was charged with being found drunk, and with a breach of her prohibition order. On the first chargo sho was convicted and discharged, and on tho other "was fined 10s, in default 2-1 hours' imprisonment. REMANDED. . Mary Smith, alias Phillips, was charged with being a roguo aftd a vagabond, in that sho had insufficient! lawful means of support. Sho was remanded until to-day. j "William John Brooklands, chargcd with being a roguo and a vagabond, and also with being an idle and disorderly person, was remanded until today. DEFAULT CASES. In tho following cases judgment was given for plaintiff for tho amount claimed, by default:—Jesse AVorgan v. Alfred Clark, £2 13s; W. Strango and Co., Ltd. v. llicliard iShadbolt and Elizabeth Annio Shadbolt, £8 13s lid; Christchurch Press Company v. E. Boqoock, £10 9s 4d ; samo v. Paul Mordaunt, 12s 6d; samo v. W. M. Robertson, £1 2s 3d; same v. Mrs Hairy Townson, £1 10s; H. Berry and Co. v. Bon Berry, £3 12s 6d; Matthew Stoddart Brown, v. Arthur (S. Frower and Daisy M. B. Frower, £8 15s; "Wallace and Co v. B. Ennis, £11 lis 6d. ADJOURNED. Jones Bros., Ltd. (Mr "Ward) sued Elizaboth E. Walsh (Mr Cassidy) for £6, amount duo on a bicycle/ Mr Cassidy stated that defendant was the wifo of a returned soldier, and in poor circumstances. Sho had returned the bicyclo to Jones Bros, when she found sho could not pay off the instalments. Ho asked tho Magistrate not to give judgment for plaintiffs in these circumstances. The ease was adjourned. A COMPOSITION COMPLICATION. Thomas Henry Harkcr (Mr Thomas) proceeded against "W. Clarksoli (Mr Salter) for the recovery of £20, debt. Plaintiff said that lie lent defendant money some time ago, but ho received no notice of a meeting of creditors in connexion with defendant's finances. He had never agreed to take part payment, lie later received a payment representing a first and final payment of a dividend on defendant's account, but he merely sent a receipt for the amount on-account of tho debt. Still later, defendant promised to pay tho amount as soon as ho could. Ho had never denied owing tho money. Judgment for tho amount claimed was given A PROPERTY SALE. Speirs, Saunders and Co. (Mr DougaJl) sued William Mackintosh (Mr Hunter) for £29, amount of commission on a property sale. Judgment was given for plaintiffs for £28 5s and costs. LYTTELTON. (Before Mr L. A. Stringer, J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Hodley Martin, a soldier on leave, was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. James Day, a youth, was charged with bcintr drunk whilst.in chargo or a horse on Governor's Hay road. Ho was fined £1, or '18 hours' imprisonment. BREACH OF THE PEACE. Ernest Spencer Harper, who did not appear, was charged with a breach of the peace. Jamc-s Preston, Inspector of Abattoirs, said that accused and a companion were driving in a gig on tho Governor's Bay road, and were in advanco of another gig which was in chargo of a girl. Both gigs pulled up at a water trough, when accuscd mischievously struck the girl's horse with a whip, causing it to bolt. Not satisfied with this, they lashed their own horse and got alougsido the other gig again, and began to belabour tho horse. Witness considered that the girl was lucky to eseapo injury. Accused was fined £1 or 48 hours' imprisonment. ASHBURTON (Before Messrs R. Galbraith and J. Cow, J.P.'s.) Herbert Clark, a youth about 19 years of age, was charged with using cbsceno and offensive language and with damaging Government property. Mr Kennedy appeared for accused, who pleaded guilty. Accused was convicted on cach chargo, and was fined £3 for using obscene languago, and ordered to pay damages.
