WINTER SESSION" INAUGURATED

The winter session, of the Young Women's Christian Association was inaugurated last night, when there was a largo attendance over which Mrs A. Kaye presided. Alias Owen, the secretary, explained tho syllabus, ana amplified the information given in it. Espccial attention was directed to tho inspirational and helpful addresses to be given on Thursday evenings, and to the Swedish gymnasium course. Mise Owen emphasised the necessity for girls taking full advantage of the ooportunities presented by the aifferent" special courses provided, and asked members to make suggestions for subjects for the lectures to bo given on Wednesday nights. Mrs J. A. Newall also spoke on the opportunities afforded by tho Association, and strongly urged members to mako themselves as efficient as possible, emphasising the necessity to do so m view of the opportunities, privileges ana rights possessed by young women which brought with them great responsibilities. . - • 4. Chaplain-Captain Gngg, who is about to return to the front, gave an interesting address, in which he dealt with some of his exneriences in Egypt. He spoke of the excellent character borne by the Now Zealand troops, and said tnat reports of their admirable behaviour were met with everywhere they had been. He gave most interesting details of life in the desert, ana of the four plagues—sun. wind, heat, and flies —that our soldiers have to contend with. He also paid a high tribute to the work of women at the front. Major Wain, at Mrs Knye's request, also addressed the meeting, and c:nphasisea manv of the points touched on by Chaplain-Captain Grigg.
