METHODIST CIRCUIT MEETINGS.

SPRINGSTON. 1 On Friday afternoon, at Broadfields, the j Springston Methodist Churoh quarterly ! meeting was held, there being a fair attendance presided over by tho Rev. W. B. Scott. The balance-sheet showed a deficiency chiefly owing to thero being two or three wet_ Sundays during the quarter. The chairman stated that ho had been advised that he would be tho next appointed chaplain to the Expeditionary Force, and expected to go away about August. Tho appointment of a successor until the end of the year was left in the hands .of the president. A foreign mission meeting, it was stated, would be held in July, and that the Rev. Mr Copeland, who had just returned from the foreign fields, would be tho deputation. A special meerting of officials is to be held at the end of May for the purpose of considering the spiritual needs of the Church. Mr W. Mounco was elected junior circuit steward, in place of Mr Battcrsby, who has left the district. GHEENDALE-MALYERN. The quarterly meeting in connexion with the Greendale-Malvern Methodist Church was hejd in the Anruit Church 011 Thursday, when therew asa good attendance of church officials and representatives. Tho balance-sheet for the quarter showed a credit of about £28. Special collections duo to anniversary services and harvest thanksgiving efforts amounted to over £86. Mr H. Thompson reported that his efforts towards Foreign Missions lead resulted in over £50 being obtained. Tho loss of the Sunday School superintendente of Russell's Flat (Mrs Jas. Henry) and Grecndale (Mr S. G. .Macfarlane) through having left the district was commented on, and especially tho loss Mr Macfarlane would be to the church at tho present time, owing to his value as a local preacher; and at a time like the present, when the circuit lias lost it 3 Homo Missionary owing to a shortage of ministers caused by the war, his joss will be more felt. The circuit plan lias had to bo altered considerably, some places having to bo content with half "tho services they have been used to. A committee was formed to go into the ways and means of providing a ,moro expeditious manner for the superintendent minister 'to. . cover ' his _ wide circuit. The minister and circuit stewards were appointed, a committee to arrange for letting or otherwise dealing with the Waddington paroonage, now vacant. The meeting placcd on- record, its high appreciation of the services rendered by Mr Hooper during his two years; ministry and wished him much succcdsin his new sphere of labour.
