MAGISTERIAL(Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. For having been found drunk two first offenders, and ono statutory firstoffender, were each fined os, with the alternative of -4 hours' imprisonment. John Shehan, a second offender, "was iined lOe, with the alternative of -J3 hours' imprisonment. Alexander Martin, on remand, charged with having been found drunk and with having used obscene language, -was convicted and discharged. ALLEGED THEFT. ' Charles Martin, alias McAnally. was charged with having, on April 2nd. stolen two watches and two chains, the property of William Taylor, and valued at L'-js. Accused pleaded guilty to having the goods in his but ho asserted that he did not know how he got them. S?nior Sergeant "VTohhnan stated that accused was wanted in "Wellington in respect of alleged failuro to comply with a maintenanco order. His Worship remanded accused for a week in case tho Wellington authorities wanted him in regard to the maintenance. A SOLDIER'S ASSAULT. (rp.ESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) DAXNEVIRKE, April 7. Edward Redmond White, a sergeant instructor at Featheioton, who is on final leave, was to-day fined £10 and costs by the Magistrate. Mr McCarthy, for assaulting a man 70 years of n;:o, whilo in a fit. of rago, arising out of a domestic dispute over a ball which had been accidentally kicli-d on tho section of the man assaulted. The Bench said the assault was quite unjustifiable.
