At tho laal. meeting of tho Kowai Count? Council, thero woro present—Messrs G. A. McLean (chairman), .T. Tlowo, and AV. 11. Hale. Tito Efficiency Board wrote, urging the reduction of works to release labourers for other purposes, and to make uso of female labour wherever possible. It waa stated that tho Council now only employed three mon, which was barely sufficient for maintenance, upkeep. and repairs. The chairman reported that Jio had caJled a public mooting of residents of tho county, to appoint a committee to oesiat tho National Efficiency Board. Mr J, J. Breen oomplained of tho storm water on Douglas road backing up on his frontage, And asked that tho water tx>, turned ln Jm. oc k creek. Tho request waa refused. tho British Trado Commissioner iu New Zealand advised that during' the year 1916 5736 motor-cars and 3191 motor-cycles were imported into Now ZeaJand, the number of British manufactured care herns 594 and motor-cycles 24G4. Public Works Dopartrnent wrote enclosing plan and estimate of cost of bridro over .North howai rivor, at BTOomiield. ITr Kowfl moved that the plan l>o nprpoved, and that tenders bo invited for the erection of the bridge. Tho motion was ecconded by Mr Hale, and carried. Tho cl«rk waa instructed to write to the Softon-Aflliloy Drainage Board, asking for tho removal of an obstruction, which, it was stated, partly blocked the outlet from Weir'a bridge. It was decided, owing to the short -water j™PPly, to erect a second windmill at tho Council yard. The clerk wa6 instructed to obtain 10 bushels of poisoned wheat for the destruction D f ema .ll birds. The chairman reported that the tender to build foreman's cottage at Balcairn waa accepted. A Rowney resigned his position a« eecond roadman, and the clerk waa instructed to invito applications for tho vacancy, returnable by April 28th, 1917. Accounts amounting to .£360 03 8d were P* f .° r Payment. The credit balance in the bank was reported to bo £1139 7a 3d, PAPARUA. _ last meeting of the Paparua County Council was attended by Messis J Leslie (chairman), Carr, Watson, Bailey,' Smith, Henley, and Paterson. It was decidcd to call a meeting of farmers at Templeton on Thursday, April 12th, at 2 p.m., to appoint a local committee to assist tho National ■bfnciency Board. Messrs Harper, Son, and Pascoo wrote stating that a summons hud been served on them on behalf of tho Paparua County Council by the Waimairi County Council ci rCgar ,to t ' lo interpretation uf Mr bhorta awaTd regarding asphalting and concrete channelling Park roads. Tho matter will probably be gone into at the Supreme Court at an early date. rr^n r "Judd wrote in reference to the Halkett road from the school to Yuldhurst. Xhe matter was referred to Messrs AVatson, smith, and Magmness to insseet and do anything they considered necessary The Christchurch Domain Board wrote stating that the Council's share towards the upkeep of the Domain for the vear ending March 31st, 1918, waa £6G The Minister of Interna! Affairs wrote s-ating that a Commission, consisting of r*£ _ (Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch) Mr Kelly (District Vainer), and Mr C.
