(PHBSS ASSOCIATION* TELEGBAJIS.) WESTPORT, April 6. All the mines in the Buller district jrcre idle to-day. At Denniston last night it was decided to continuo work, but on learning to-day tho decision of tho Millerton and Stockton miners, the men held a mass meeting and decided not to resume work. GREYMOUTH, April 5. A mass meeting at Runanga yesterday passed the following resolution: — "That 'we, members of the Point Elizabeth, Liverpool, and State Colleries Industrial Union of Workers, enter a protest against the Conscription Act by a cessation of work, and demand an immediate repeal of the said Act." TEE RECENT ARRESTS. MR HERDMAN INTERVIEWED. (press association telegram.) OPOTIKI, April 5. Tho Hon. A. L. Herdman arrived hero last night. Interviewed concerntho arrests of prominent Miners Union officials, Mr Herdman said:— Those prosecutions have been, commenced after careful investigation by tho police into the methods adopted., by tho men connected with the coal-mining industry on the West Coast of the South Island, and in the Waikato district. Proceedings are being taken under the war regulations relating to sedition and strikes made on February 16th of this year. These regulations made it aa offence for persons to combine to interfere with the production of such a commodity as .coal. At the present time I must decline to say anything further, as the matter will come before a Magistrate for investigation in duo course.
