Tho fortnightly meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on~SVednesday evening. • Present- —The Mayor (Mr Geo. Armstrong), and Council lord Noonan, Williams, Henning, Cantrell, Haylcck, Liete, and Munro. Captain Huso, Dominion Fire In/vector, forwarded a comprehensive, yet concise, report dealing with-the Fire Brigade, appliances, equipment, water fcu.-jply, and storage of inflammable spirits. He appended certain recommendations for improved storage conditions in keeping with modem requirements. On the motion of Cr. Honning, it was resolved. 'that Inspector Hugo's import lx> referred to tho Fire Brigade Committee for consideration and report. The Dietrict Health Officcr, Chrictchurch, wrote in reference to, tho proposed house-to-houco inspection in ihe borough. He encloeed a note from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, making a certain offer with respect to the inspection by a fully qualified sanitary expert. It was decided to employ the services of tho Sanitary Inspector «n tho terms stated by the Beard. The Harbourmaster v.-rotc regarding tiro retaining scawull now in coureo of erection near the Recreation Ground. He enclosed a report from the Marine Deportment, suggesting certain improvements in ike work. The leicer was received, it boin? understood that the suggestions should be adopted. The sum of £10 l(Vs was voted to the Aeroplane Fund of the Christchurch Branch of the Overseas Club. Tho applieslijii of Mrs Peters for a lsa".vker'o licciwi was granted. Applications lor elcctrical energy from JSccsrs Peter Taylor and A. I. Ilbedes were granted. Messrs Booth, Mcßonn.ld and Co., wrote, intimating that the firm's gas-sue t'ion expert would iU'rive in Akaroa. nnd would tfee the plant going and supervise its working for a week or so. The letter wa3 received, the Council agreeing to the Grin's sugsrestion with respect to the expert's remuneration. On the motion of Cr. Hayloek, a rrbfl of 19 per cant, vim allowed on oil clcctrieil charges ir.cde durinc the jirpt six months, Crs. Cantrell and Henniag dissenting.
