—■ rn .ROMAN CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL. The Holy "Week services began in the Catholic Cathedral last evening, and will bo continued this evening and tomorrow evening, -when the matins and lauds, popularly known as Tenebrae, will be given. The chant each evening will bo rendered by a choir of priests and the Cathedral choir. TJiq feature of the chant at matins is tho rendering of the Lamentations, three in number, each evening by ono of the priests. The choir n il[ render, each evening, Do-Vico's responses to the Lamentations, tho "Bonedictus," and tho "Miserere. ' The instruction last night was on the ceremonial of Holy Week. I To-day there will be Holy Communion at 6.30 a.m., 7 a.m.j; and 7.30 R.m. The Solemn High Mass of the tjay, at which the Bishop will bo celeirant, will be at 9 a.m. The organ will bo used up to and inclusivo of the "Gloria," after which, tho organ and tho liclls will bo silent till the Mass on Saturday. At High Mass to3iiy the Blessing of the Oils, tho nii-ism- for baptism and- for tho- sick trill bo pronounced by tho Bishop, assisted bv priests of tho district. After the Mass, there will bo a procession to the Altar of Repose. The Adoration will be kept up throughout the day and night,,the men of tho parish keeping .watches throughout the night. In" the evening there will be a fpwial sermon on the Blessed Eucharist. ! To-morrow, at 9 a.m., the Mass of tho Presanctified will be celebrated by tho Bishop. At this Mass the full Passion according to St. John will bo sung by three oriests. Tho Cross will bo unveiled nnd venerated by tho clergy and people during which tho choir will sing the' famous "Impropcria" (or . Reproaches-} (B'e Vico). A procession will bo formed from the Altar of Repose, and the office will lie continued by somo of the ceremonies of the High Mass. Tho Bishop will preach on the Passion. At 3 p.m. there will bo the Stations of tho Cross, at which-tho Bishop will officiate, and the choir will sing" "Stabat _ Mater." In tho evening the Bishop will preach on tho Passion. On Saturday there will bo the usual early Masses; tho last at 11 a.m. will he Pontifical High Mass, celebrated by tho Bishop, who will also preach. His Lordship will preside at Solemn Vespers in tho evening, and will preach on the day's festival. To-morrow morning, at 11 o'clock, all the local non-episcopal churches will unite in an Intercession and Communion sorvicc at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. It is expected that all the ministers of tie city and suburbs will bo present and assist at the service. The Rev. J. Paterson will preside, and an address on "The Crisis and the Cross'! will bo delivered: by the Rev. H. Allen Job. The prayers will be taken by the Revs. P. N..Knight, J: J. North, and H. Johnson. The Festival of Passover will commence to-morrow evening, and continuo for eight days. Sesrvic.es will be held in tho Synagogue to-morrow and Saturday evenings, and on 'Saturday and Sunday mornings. To-morrow Lieiit;-Colonel' Mclnnes, Ohief' Secretary of the Salvation Army A will conduct special Easter services as follows Linwood Hall 10.30 a.m.. Sydenham Hall 2.30 p.m., the Citadel, Victoria street, 7.30 p.m. At tho eveninc service the Colonel's subject will be "The Seven Last Words." He will speak in Cathedral square on Saturday night. •
