She proceeds tlienoo to Auckland and Greymo ith. The Moeraki was not expected to be held up at Sydney owing' to shortage of coal, and was expected to leave as usual yesterday for Wellington and Lyttelton. She is due at the northern port on Monday, and at Lyttelton on Wednesday. The Blackball Coal Company's steamer, Ngakuta, is now en route from Grcymouth to Lyttelton with a cargo of coal, and is due hero to-morrow. News has been received in Wellington that the Italian ship Eurasia, which was at that port in September, 1911, with a cargo of Marseilles tiles for Messrs Briscoe and Co., wan sunk by an enemy submarine on August 12th last. Captain Olivari, in his letter to Mr Gforgo Robertson, of the Government Insurance Department, says:—"We were returning from Philadelphia to Genoa Tvith a cargo of in fact were within twelve miles of our destination, when I saw what appeared to be one of our torpedo boats at a distance of about 200 metres. A shot waa, however, fired across our bows, and wo then knew that trouble was brewing. In reply to enquiries, 1 gave the national*v of the vessel and particulars regarding the cargo. A boat, with three officers, then put off from Mte submarine, and on coming on board demanded our papers, and gave us five minutes to leave the doomed ship. We accordingly left, including the ship's cat. and so did the officers. Three shots were then fired by the submarine, and the Eurasia, which I had commanded for eight years in fair weather and foul, .gradually settled under the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Another large vessel, about eight miles from where we then were, was also torpedoed shortlv afterwards.-'
