CHRISTMAS' HOLIDAYS.
A XEW DEPARTURE IX^DUXEDIX. (special to "tiie rnxss.") DUNEDIX, November 16. At a representative meeting of tho retail section of the Otago Employers' Association held this morning, arrangements were made for the Christmas and New Year holidays. It was dccided, by a substantial majority, that shops shall remain open on Friday, December 23rd, till 11 p.m., and on the following day (Christinas Eve) they shall bo closed at 1 p.m. The samo arrangement v.ill hold good for the New Year. This will give the employees a really good holiday—from 1. p.m. on Saturday in each week til I the following "Wednesday morning. The arrangements outlined mark a radical departure from the custom hitherto prevailing in the retail trade, for never before have the Ihinedin shops been closed on Christmas Eve.
