PIGEON FLYING
Tiio Christchurch Homing Pigeon Society flew off -a race from Kaitoke (North. Island). birds were sent, divided amongst 12 owners. Tho birds wore liberated at 7 a.m., in cloudy weather, with a westerly wind. Tlie winner of first and special prizes was Mr J. Barter's Major, which flow the distance of 019 miles 1452 yards air-line in 6hr« Bmin 4o6CC. The following is the velocity recorded by each owner's bird: Yds. per minute. Spenoe'a Carlton .. .. 831 Tho Society also flew off a second race from Kaitoke. This time 50 birds were sent, divided amongst 12 owners. The birds were liberated at 9:30 a.m. in fine weather, and westerly wind. The b-lrda put up fairly fact times, very littlo dividing the first seven lofts. Tlie -winner of first and speciaj prizo was Mr F. Kinpsford's Le Das, which flew the dietanco of 221 miica 1150 yards air-linc in shre 21min. 37eec.
