ANX UAL REPORT. Tlie report on the year's working of tho Canterbury Society of Arts, to be presented at tlie annual meeting, states that tho council recorded with logret the death of sovoral members who had lost their lives in tho service of their country, and also of Mr A. TV. Walsh (at Auckland), who for some time was a member of tlie council. All mombeiß who were serving their country had been made honorary meinbereOduring their tame of earvice. The annual exhibition was held during March and April, and the woiis exhibited" were well up to standard. Tho sales, although not as "ood as in years prior to the war, wcrc very littlo behind last year's. The receipts from letting* of tire gallery showed a good 'increase on last year's figures, and, considering the war, must bo considered very satisfactory. The gallery had been lent free of charge on numerous occasions for meetings and functions in conneiion_ with various patriotic funds. It was at the disposal cf the Queen Election Executive for six montlis. and appreciative letters of thanks had been received. Tlie annual grant of £50 from the Christchurch City Council was expended in the purchase of "Summer," by N. Welch: "Tlie Beach, Xotr Brighton," by Graoe Butler, <vnd a miniature, "Kitty," by Aire E. "VY-a-llwork. The balance-eheest showed receipts £828 9s 3d. expenditure £798 9a 3d, leaving a balanco in hand of £30. The lia-bilit-'es were £1695 Is, and tlio assets £8799 17s Id.
