THE COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO COLLECT FUNDS in THIS PROVINCE HAVE NO MISG IVINGS AS TO THE RESPONSE WHICH WILL BE MADE TO THE CALL, BELIEVING THAT, TRUE TO ITS TRADI TIONS, CANTERBURY WILL MEET ITS OBLIGATIONS GENEROUSLY AND UNFLINCHINGLY. OBJECTS— TO ESTABLISH A PATRIOTIC * UND TO BE USED IN ASSISTING THE DEPENDENTS OF MEN WHO HAVE VOLUNTEERED 1O FIGHT THE ENEMY OF THE BRITISH FLAG. These bray* men should not leave our chorea having any m»givings as to what may happen to their loved ones SHOULD SICKNESS OR DEATH By THE PRICE PAID FOR THEIR LOYALTY; and should they return physically unfit, it is our j duty to ASSIST THEM until again restored to health. TO APPLY THE FUNDS IN ANY MANNER THAT MAY BE DEEMED NECESSARY BY THE COMMITTEE TO ALLEVIATE SUFFERING AND DISTRESS CAUSED BY THIS STUPENDOUS CRISIS. . NOTE-—NONE OF THE MONiCY RAISED -will be expended in the Equipment of Troops. This can be beet arranged by the Gorernment, th* cost being provided out of Consolidated Rovenne.
