PASSED UNDER CONTROL OF GREAT BRITAIN.

A "Gazette" extraordinary has oeen issued, declaring that owing to the state of nu-blic affairs and the demands upon his Majesty's naval forces for protecting the' Empire, tho occasion has arisen for ordering and directing naval volunteers to be called into active service; also declaring H.M.S. Philomel and tho New Zealand Naval Forces to pass under th© control of Great Britain.
PUBLIC TRAFFIC REGULATIONS. Public traffic regulations governing the admission of craft to the port of Lytteiton wero settled yesterday b>Colonel C. J. Cooper, officer commanding the Coast Defence troops, and Mr Cyrus J. Williams, secretary to tlie Lytteiton Harbour Board. These regulations, wliich will come into operation to-night, are set out in detail on page 13 of this issue.
