PATRIOTISM UNITES ALL.
ELECTIONS MAY BE POSTPONED
SYDNEY, August 3. Everywhere in the cn-y streets aro eigns of suppressed excitement, and cable news is eagerly awaited and devoured. In view of the crisis, all politicaLparties are working in-perfect hSrmony..' Mr Fisher, Leader .of .the Labour Party, declared that in such a state of affairs as this there were "no parties. "The safety and the welfare of our country is the first consideration. Mr Cook, knows my views.*'* The election campaign has been practically suspended, and it is rumoured that Messrs Fisher and Cook, in view of the European crisis, have agreed to postpone tho Federal clcctioni.
The naval and military authorities are quietly elaborating precautionary defence measures. The cable stations are being protected. Guards have been placed at the wireless stations, and the forts are fully manned. Arrangements have been completed to keep the wireless stations along tne coast in constant touch. In order to meet demands for these measures a limited number of citizen soldiers of about a tuougand strong have ocen called up for duty.
All news of the movements of the fleet, which in all probability will .shortly be placed urder tho control cf tho Admiralty is being withheld.
