VISITING SCIENTISTS
VARIATION IN SOLAR RADIATION. IMPORTANCE OF SOLAR INVESTIGATION. By Ciblc—Press Association.-—Copyright) SYDNEY, August 3. Professor Abbott, ono of the party of scientists who arrived by the Makura, in urging the importance of establishing a Solar Observatory in Australia, declared that scientists had lately discovered variability in tho sun fluctuation and soJar radiation, amounting to from five to ten per cent, in forty-eight hours. "As the temperature of tho earth depends on the sun, it is probable," said Professor Abbott, "that this varying radiation may be found very important. It is only about a year since it was known definitely that tho sun was variable, and it is impossible, with the single observatory now engaged in the work, to ascertain the full valuo of the discovery." PERTH, August 3. The visiting scientists are returning from tours of tho country in order to meet the main party, which is arriving to-morrow.
Various members of the party have been delivering addresses on scientific and other subjects.
