CONCERTS AND COMFORT.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE rEESS." Sir, —Referring, to the remarks oi your contributor, "Strad,'' in your Saturdays issue, I do not tnink he is altogether just in his allocation of the blame for the poor atteudan :e at the recent Miscna Eiman concerts. If 1 am right in assuming tliat concert-go-ing should partake of the character ot a pleasure, and no; a painful penance, it is Kardly fair to blame the public ot'CiiiiSL-cuUiCii for nou iusuing in overwhelming numbers to pay up 1.0 half a guinea each for tho doubtful privilege o* spending an erening in an excellent imitation of a refrigerating chamber. The biame lies j-u.e.v wua tnofce wno are responsible for the aosence of any warming appliances in our theatres. Not only does this deter many from attending in cold weatner. but it also undoubtedly penalises those who do go by rendering it impossible for the performers to give us of their very best. It is pitiful to observe, as one repeatedly does, artists visibly suffering from tb.3 Arctic conditions on our stage. 1 o.dy wish that the financial loss to wblcr "Strad" refers would fall upon these responsible for the conditions referred to above. We might then hope to get something-done.—Yours, etc., CONCERT-GOftfi. August 3rd.
