Amondus Nelson and Anders Hansen, two firemen belonging to tlio Arawg. came 7 -on Saturday morning, srid becoming drunk tbey behaved in a' riotous' manner; whipn resulted in their being lecked UP- Arnondua Nelson, who Was charged with disorder!? behaviour whilst'under the influence of drink, gleadf-d guilty. Ser.iorSergoant Ryan stated that; in company with three other firemen of th© Arawa, Nelson got drunk, and, as they wero rolling about.the footpaths and making themselves obnoxious, they were advised by Constable Williams to get on board the ship. Nelson refused, and his behaviour led to his being arreted. He was fined 20s, or ono mouth's mprisoninent. • Anders Hansen w&s charged with obstructing Constable Williams in tho CAjcution ot" his duty, and with using obscene language Tbo Sergeant said that when Hansen saw his mate arrested hy Constable Williams, be twice attempted to pull him away, and. failing in tbis, be followed up and used obscene language. ... " On catching sight of another jnei*nher of tho force *ne rah away, l*ut was subsequently near tbo wharf. The Bench remarked that they wero determined \ -fco put ia stop to the practice of disorderly behaviour . and obsc6no language. If men camo" to New Zealand they had to conform with its laws, or failiqg that -would have to stand tho consequences. Han-*en, was fitted '£!?. 'or fourteen days' imprisonment on the first charge, and on tho other was fined £5 or Oho month's imprisonment.
