GERALDINE.
Tho Rev. B. Dudley, F.R.A.S., delivered an interesting lecture on our nearest celestial neighbour, "The 31oon," on Thursday night, in tho Presbyterian Hall, Geraldine. There was a large attendance, Dr. Fergus Paterson presided. During the evening songs wore contributed by Messrs R. Logan, F. Toott, and H. F. "Webster, and pianoforte solos were played by Mrs Brown and Miss \E. Sherratt. The proceeds were in aid of the funds of the local Methodist Church.
WAIMATE. At the Drillshed on Thursday the Senior Cadets- entertained the efiiccrs of the" Waimato _ District Honorary Territorials' Association at a banquet Lieut. F. D. Maurice presided, and ori his right and left were Majors Head and Wain. Captain Francis. Lieuts. X. M. OrbeH, and-J. Black. There was* a ! very good muster of Cadets. The prizes won at the recent sports meeting p ro _ moted by the Honorary Territorials' x%- ---! sociatkm were distributed by Xiout I Orbell. ! Mr Georgo Reynolds, of Willowbridgo, I had a threshing mill in lact week, and reports the following yields of, oats: Carton's Record (only 11.2 bushels sown to the acre), 70 bushels; Gorton's New Abundance, 75 bushels; old Gartons (21.2 bushels to tbe acre sown), 50 bushels. Tbe soil and growing conditions were similar. Mr John Menzics, headmaster of the Wat-ana School, will be retiring on superannuation at the end of this year A special meeting of the High School Board was held on Thursday, for tho purpose of considering the question of purchasing tho 5J acres now leased by tho" Borough Council lo Mr TV. Barford. It was unanimously decided to purchase the land, which will ho used as "a playground for tho District High School.
