AKAROA.
.The members of the Akaroa Boating ■ Club entertained- Mr W. H. Parkin, who has been a prominent member of tho club's executive for a number of j years. The function took the form of • a smoking concert, which was held in j the club's newshed on Thursday night. ■ Mr C. W. Leete (president of the club) was in tho chair. His Worship tho ! Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong), the club , captain (Mr T. Lewitt),- and the deputy- ; captain (Mr B. W. Henning), were at j ■the official table. Tho chairman pro- I posed the toast of '"The Guest of the I .'Evening," after the toast of "The' King" had been honoured. Ho said Mr , Parkin was esteemed as a citizen and , for his. help in all public matters. . He j bad heard it whispered that Mr Parkin 1 would return to.Akaroa, and bo hoped ' sincerely that was the case. Messrs J. D. Bruce, Geo. Armstrong (his Worship the Mayor), W. H. Henning, and T. E. Taylor, also spoke '.to the toast. Mr Parkin, in reply, thanked those present for the toast and for the presentation made to him.
