A CHILD SUFFOCATED.
(SPECIAL 10 "THE PRESS.") PALMERSTOX, June 4. A particularly sad. fatality happened yesterday to the six-months-old child of Mr and Mrs W. J. Jemmett, of Long Melford road, Palmerston Xorth. An inquest was held by Mr J. W. Poynton this morning into the circumstances. The evidence showed that the child had been suffering from a cold, and to prevent him from irritating his face a jersey was placed over him, but his arms were not put through the sleeves. ThOj infant was then placed in » perambulator to sleep, where he apparently turned over on bis face with his mouth against the pillow, and was unable to turn round again. The result was that suffocation took place. X'pon the baby's plight being discovered medical aid was immediately summoned, but life was found to be extinct. The returuo'l a verdict of accidental death from suffocation.
