HEAVY SOUTHERLY GALE.
« , SNOW ON THE PORT HILLS. The weather cleared in Christchurch and Lyttelton on Wednesday night, and tho strong southerly galo raised a heavy sea along tho coast, and yesterday morning, nearly every coastai station reported rough conditions for shipping. The blow was exceptionally severe in the vicinity of Auckland and along the west coast of the .North Island. The ferry steamer Wehine was delayed by the galo on the passage down from Wellington. She had a rough passage, and did not arrive at Lyttelton until 7.55 a.m. yesterday, her passengers and mails missing the connexion with the first express for the South. There wae a heavy snowfall* on Banks Penin. I'la, and the Port Hiils had a coating on one or two peaks yesterday morning. After a hard frost, the weather yesterday was fine and warm. !
