MEETING AT NEW BRIGHTON

A meeting of the -New lirignton Branch Cominitteo was neld <last evening, Air C H. Opie presiding over an attendance of twenty-one. Mr Opie apologised for the absence of the president (Mr C. H. AViuuey), who.had another engagement. The cnairmau reported that the amount collected up to date by tho ladies was £27 17s 3d.

It was resolved, on the motion of Mr W. H. • Graham, that the committee express its hign appreciation of the gift of the Hon. it. Heaton Rhodes of £jluO, and the offer of Mr G. D. Greenwood to grant to the Central Committee as much land as might bo required for the project at Amberley, provided the location was suitable. .

The names of Mrs C. H. Opie, Miss Musgroye, Mr Maurice Hamber and Mr Musgrove were added to the General Committee.

Mr Eastwood suggested the local picture show managers for their eupport. Mr Hamber pointed out that the General Committee had rejected all offers of the ordinary cfiararter made by picture people. The committee would take all they could get, but wore nob prepared to ask people to sell picture show tickets. He suggested that the "Barnstormers" be approached to give a concert in New Brighton in aid of the fuuds.

On the motion of Mr Graham, it was decided to ask the Entertainment Committee to report on the proposal at the next meeting of the General Committee.

Mr E. Tillyshort was appointed chairman of the Entertainment Committee. It was decided to hold a subscription dance in the Pier Hall, the ladies of the General Committee undertaking the necessary arrangements, with Mr G. -"W. Bishop as chairman. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the committee on Thursday, the 18th inst.

■&■ *ote of thanks to the chairman (Mr Opie) was carried unanimously. At a meeting of the Ladies' Dance -Committee, following the ordinary meeting, it was decided to.hold the dance about the end of June. The nuestion of the price of tickets, refreshments, etc., was left over for consideration, at a.meeting to bo held on Tuesday next.
