MOUNT HERBERT.
At tho monthly meeting of the Mount Herbert County Council, there were present:—Messrs O. Bradley (chairman), A. K. Fleming, H. Field, L. M. Wileon, Q. C. Manson, I. Hunter, P. "Bamiord, and It. Allan.
1 The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote that the levy for the ensuing year would be £271 * 6s sd. Messrs Jameson and Son asked " permission to fence along tho road boundary of the pror>ert.v of the late . Archdeacon Cholmondeley.—Granted. a Mr. Gordon Holmes, Pigeon Bay, j; wrote regarding road access to | 1 several properties at the bay. The ' matter was placed in the hands of the Porty Levy members to carry out. Mr. George Steelo, Port Levy, asked per- | r mission to fence up to the road forma- " tion. —Granted. Cr. Field moved that ' 3 the general rate for the Port Levy rid- ' ! ing lor the ensuing year be Jd in the ■. £1, and for Port Victoria , riding 3d ' in the £1, upon all rateable properties. : ■ —Carried. The clerk was instructed I to advertise for tenders for carting 700 I ya.ds of metal at-Port Lovy and Purau. The Council decided to purchase another i draught horse for Port Levy riding. , i The clerk was instructed to obtain the usual quantity of poisoned wheat. Cr. Allan moved that Section IX. of • the by-law regulating the motor traffic I throughout the county be repealed. The matter was allowed to stand over pending the formation of a new road from Charteris Bay along the sea front. Cr. Manson moved that tho Council obtain the. probable cost of forming about 60 chains along the Beach road, from Charteris Bay to 'Anderson Hill. The Council decided to get the route surveyed and obtain an estimate of the cost Cr. Allan moved that a main road throughout the county be by "special order" declared, and after full consideration the motion was lost, as the Council considered that it would be better to give an annual subsidy to the ' Port Victoria riding of £100. On the , motion of Cr. Fleming, the above sum was granted.
