» AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION'S GENEROUS GIFT. At last night's meeting of the Council of tho Canterbury Automobile Association, Mr H. G. Ell, M.P., waited upon tho Council to ask for some- assistance to make tho road from Dyer's Pass to Kennedy's Bush practicable for motor traffic. He pointed out what had already been done in tno matter of widening tho track through, VictoriaPark to the top of tho'hiil, a work that would never have been accomplished but for the help extended to tho Summit Jtoad Association by tho Automobile Association, and said that his proposal was to widen and grade tlic road right up to Kennedy's Bush, which would make a splendid drivo for motorists.
vSomc members of the 'council wanted to know'whether, if the Association assisted, and the work was done, motorists might not bo prohibited from nsing the road.
Mr Ell assured them that so far as he knew nothing of . tho sort would occur, and he would strenuously oppose any such suggestion. Mr Johnston said that nowadays people were becoming more sensible in regard to motor traffic and he noticed that a- member of the Heathcoto Count-v'Council bad even proposed that the Council abolish- al' its regulations referring to motor traSc. Mr Ell then retired, and ' after a short discussion tho Association decided to make a <rmnT of £'2o towards the formation of the road, the amount bearing tho Government subsidy of £ for .£.
