A Liberal League has been formed hero with the object of advancing the interests of that, party at. the next election, but it is quite possible that there will this .timo bo- a. union of Liberal and Labour forces to ensu..e the return of Mr Veit ,h. as against the Reform candidate', Mr Fred Pirani. The latter's chances, however, .are regarded as being excellent. Speaking at the .meeting of the- new League, Mr T. M. .Wilford, M.P. for Hutt, maintained that public opinion had changed. - "Two years ago," he said; "the people of New. Zealand- were saying - 'Massey is in, Ward is down and out.' One year-ago that cry was altered to "'Will Ward get back'?' whilst during the last few months' the cry-had changed to 'Will Massey get back?' " ■ . .
