MR MASSEY AND MR RUSSELL.
(SPECIAL TO "THE .PBESS.") . ' ' DUNEDIN, This 3>_y.' Mr Massey,. in reply to Mr G. W. Russell, said Mr Russell has stated that "I hold 1000 acres of land worth £40.an acre within twenty miles of Auckland. ' That statement is incorrect. I own 325 acres of land at Mengero, where I have lived for the greater part of my life. Of that, 300 acres aro occupied hy my eldest son. I have reserved 25 acres for myself. 1 have another farm about forty miles from Auckland which is. occupied -by my 6ocond.son, wh0..6 also married. That is the whole of the land 1 own, except that, Lam a shareholder in a company which was started some timo ago to save what- was thought to be a valuable industry, and, incidentally, the company owns some laud." "I am not.a speculator," continued Mr Massey, "and havo never bought land for the purpose of selling it, nor havo I ever, bought more land than I considered was required for the. members' of my family. As for the suggestion that the Waiulru railway, referred to by Mr Russell, will : increase the value of my property, it is too ridiculous for anything."
