CONDUCT OF FOREIGNERS.
STATEMENTS DENIED
YELLOW PRESS ALLEGATIONS
A statement published in Toronto, that foreigners in the steerage fought with knives when escape was barred, is denied on tho authority of tho Cana-dian-Pacific Company's Mariuo Superintendent, who. also says that tho crew behaved splendidly. There was. little or no panic. among the passengers, who seemed too dazed by the. euddenness of the accident to. make any outcry or trouble. ," Mr Welsh denies Mrß Andresen's statement; that Captain Kendall waa drunk when he arrived on tho Storstad. He says that Captain Kendall never took drink in his life.
Sensational stories are. appearing in the American Yellow Preee that the Empress of Ireland's crow wore cowards.
Miss Townshend, of Blonheim, declares that such statements are absolutely wicked. The crew did everything they possibly could.
Neir. York newspapers are also publishing scare stories .of foreigners fighting aboard, and the crew desertinc the ship and leaving the passengers to drown, also that tho captain waa drunk, and similar untruths.
