The teams were :— Canterbury—Goalkeeper, C. Brown; backs, W. Skelton ard W. Hay; halves, J. Pascoo, O. Butterfield. and W. DufGeld (captain): forwards, F. Hntchings, R. Joe, H. Bell, J. Hawkins, and W. Chappell. Ashburton —Goalkeeper, C. Moore; backs, H. Larney and F. Wear; halves, E. Scales, H. Amos, and W. Bamford; forwards, G. Smith, J. Brown. J. Muldoon, W. Clarke and D. Moore. THE PLAY. Canterbury set up an attack from tho bully, and Chappell made a smart run down the line. Larney intercepted his centre,, however, and cleared. Wear stopped an • onslaught from tho right wing, but the visitors eventually had to concode a corner, from which Chappell scored. Canterbury 1, Ashburton nil. The visitors stemmed several rushes : n quick succession, Larney and Bamford putting in somo good work. Chappell had two shots without result, and Wear returned play into Canterbury's territory, and from "sticks" by Brown an opening was made for Ashburton, but advantage was not taken of it, and thd Reds again broke away. Bell, with some individual play, ran right through tho backs, and scored. Canterbury _*, Ashburton nil Pressure was kept up by the local men, and some.good saves were made by Moore in goal. The opposition was not strong enugh, and Bell got through again. Canterbury 3, As'jburton nil. Starting again th'-Red forwards ran straight from the bully, and Hawkins registered. Can-
teibury 4, Ashburton 0. Ilutchin* and .Too were responsible for, some clever work along the Li.... but Baml'ord and Amos frustrated their attempts in the circle, and time was called with no further change in the score. Starting again, the local men kept up their-attack, a shot from Hawkins just missing the net, but later received a neat pas'- from Joe and scored. Canterbury ii. Ashburton 0. The performance was again repeated, and Joo scored from an awkward angle. Canterbury 6. Ashburton 0. The home team now took the upper hand, Hawkins scoring, then Bell twice in quick succession, running tlio score up to 9. Canterbury 9, Ashburton nil. After this th visitors showed some combined forward piny by Moore, Muldoon. and Claike, and'the Reds had to concede a corner.' They kept up tho attack, but offside play spoilt an" excellent opportunity, .Moore eventually having a shot which went wide. Canterbury then took charge of things again, and Joe and Hutchins scored close together. Canterbury 11,' Ashburton 0. Moore s«t up a good attack for the Southerners but Brown cleared quickly, tho ball eventually gorhg over. From a long drive by'Harg the home, forwards set up another rush, and H.-tclujifjs was again successful. Canterbury 12. Ashburton 0. Attacks were made by both sides, but without avail, the game ending in favour of Canterbury by 12 goals, shot by Bell (4), Hawkins (3) Joe .2), Hutehings (2), and Cl.appell to nil. Messrs T.
