REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES.

The usual "Hockey Day" of the Canterbury Hockey Association was held nt Sydenham Park yesterday. Several hundred spectators attended throughout tho day, and great interest -was shown in all the games. In the representative ga'-**e> played at 10 a.m., between the Canterbury A team and South Canterbury, the former had a fairly easy win, while the Canterbury B team, playing at the samo timo, put up a big score against Ashburton.

The southern halves and tho backs were conspicuous by clever play, but Canterbury, wero not to bo .denied/and Throo, after somo tricky play, registered his second goal. The home team repeated their attacks, nnd several shots went wide of tho mark. _ After being penalised .twico for offside play, the Reds made another rush at the visitors' circle, and Throp, following in fast, increased tho score. Canterbury 4, South Canterbury 0. Tho Blues pulled themselves together some- , what, and Edwards made a good sprint down the line, and centred well, but Berry cleared. They kept up the pressure, however, and Davis scored just before half-time was called. Canterbury 4, South Canterbury 1. Even play marked the opening of tho second spell, until the Reds worked the ball into the Southern territory, and kept it there for some time. Grammar, Holland, and Hulbert all made good attempts to score, but without avail. After some pressure, the Blues conceded a corner. From the hit-in, Holland obtained possession and scored with a pretty shot. Canterbury 5, South Canterbury 1. Tho visitors wore unable to stem the persistent rushes of tho home forwards, and from a good passing rush, Throp scored again. Canterbury 6, South Canterbury 1. Rix relieved with somo good hitting, and intercepted a forward rush cleverly. t Wallace also made good use of his stick, and turned defence into attack, which ■was only shortlived, however, as Martin drove the ball well back. After an attempt by Throp, Hulbert stopped the ball right in front of the net, and registered Canterbury's seventh goal. Canterbury 7, South Canterbury 1. .Some even play followed, the backs on both sides hitting well.. Anderson engineered an attack, and passed the ball to the left wing, but slowness deprived them of a chance. Later, another opportunity was thrown away by offside play. From a hit up the "field by Sepie, Holland opened a good passing rush. Throp's shot was stopped well .by Turner, and Patrick hit over the line. A few minutes later Sepie passed to Throp. and this player was again successful. Canterbury 8, South Canterbury 1. Timo was called shortly after, with no change in the score. Messrs H. Hatch and H.
