A meeting of the South Orari River Board was held at Temuka on 'JLuosday. Present —Mr R. Macauiay (in tho chair), Messrs 31. McLeod and C Pye. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr J. Guild (chairman) in his illness, and, the hope was expressed that ho would soon bo ablo to resumo his place at the table of the Board. Mr Tresize, junr., made application for 20 chains of embankment to keep back tho encroachment bf Orari river on his property, and the Board resolved to inspect- ttie locality. Mr Kennie wrote, asking for an increase of £5 of tho grant towards cost of fence erected by him, and tho Board resolvpd to increase tho grant to £4. Tho chairman brougnt forward tho matter of riverbed obstructions, urging the necCsity of bringing the matter to a head, as every year's delay meant the adding ot hundreds of pounds to tlio ultimato cost of clearing tbe Orari riverbed of willows. The Board authorised tho chairman to interview Mr ... G. Raymond as to* the best course to adopt in view of the Geraldine -ounty Council's dis-ai-owal of responsibility in tho matter. The chairman also mentioned the proposal to create two counties out of the present Geraldine county, and at his suggestion the Board passed a resolution urging that if any alteration is to tako place, it should be in the direction of creating one big county, under ono County Council, with houndaries from the hills to the sea. Mr J. W. Joynt, who is leaving the district to take up fruit-farming in' Nelson, tendered his resignation as clerk to the Board, and tbe samo was accepted with expressions of regrot. *
