OBITUARY.
MR THOMAS G. WRIGHT,
- Mr Thomas George Wright, a veteran printer and pressman, passed away yesterday, at the age of eighty-two years. The late Mr Wright was a well-known i figure in Press circles in Christchureh, j and ho retired only four years ago. He was trained originally as a compositor in the Old Country, but afterwards joined the Navy and served on the China coast during the troubles there, and also in the Crimea, where ho was present at the fail of Sebastopol. He was attached whilo on the Crimean servico to the medical stores department, and in the course of his duties he was brought into contact with Florence Nightiugale. Some of his most treasured possessions were orders for stores signed by Florence Nightingale, which he had carefully preserved. On leaving the Navy Mr Wright came to Christchurch, where he was employed for some years as a comoositor in the ••Lyate't- ! ton Times" office. He then went tc [Dunedin and served in the "Star" office there. On returning to Chri-tchurch he joined 'The Press" as reader, and discharged his duties faithfully and well for a long soan, covering nearly forty years. He was an ardent horticulturist, and for many years contributed the j Garden Notes to the "Weekly Press." He possessed a valuable collection of ferns and rare plants at his residence in Linwood, and his. sole hobby wa6'his garden. His wife predeceased him some twelve months ago, and there is a family surviving of three daughters and one son.
