CANTERBURY 'v. WESTLAND.
The first important fixture of the season under Association rules takes place to-day, when Wcstland plays Canterbury on Richmond Park for the Brown Shield, Now Zealand's premier trophy. The visitors' team is composed entirely of Scotsmen and North of . England players, and one can safely forecast a keen and vigorous game. For early visitors, a curtain miser has been provided in tho form of a match between Nomads and St. Bede's, As both these elevens are capable exponents of. the g-me, visitors will be regaled with a full afternoon's sport. The Oxford Hotel is the headquarters of the Westtand team, and tho customary din-; ncr and smoking concert will be held there after .the match.
