TAUMUTU.
The repairing of the outlet culvert-* at Cooper's and the Taumutu lagoons lias been completed, and a ronort upon tho work, by the contractor, Mr 11. Macartney, was placed before the Ellesmero County Council at Mondays meeting. The report staled that the Ttiurauiu culvert bad boon extended lGi't, and lhai it, was not likely that the structure would become blocked _in any way or suffer damage at (he outside end by" the -sou. Cooper's, was running'well, and required no repair.'* at present. ' The flow of both culverts was interfered with 'to a great extent by tho contracted ends, and they would both discharge a much greater quantity of water if widened out to full width. This was especially the case with regard to the Taumutu culvert. The contractor added that he was fully satisfied that both culverts could have been put down fully another three foot, in which ca*o they would havo run bettor, and beo lees exposed to strain and wear than at present. Tho two culvert* drain a large area of land, nnd tho settlers are naturally very pleased that tho repairs have been finished.
