THE POSITION IN WELLINGTON.
(SPECIAL TO I'RESS.")
WELLINGTON, June 2. Tho allegation mado in tho "Dominion" tliat there are women unemployed is doubted here .or if they aro unemployed it is their own fault. There is in Wellington a keen, demand for domestic labour. One landlady who has been endeavouring' for over a week to got help had to do all the work of the establishment herself, with the assistance of her husband, in his spare hours. In private houses there is also great difficulty in getting suitable domestic workers, even though high, wages and easy hours are.offered. Tho result is that many families have gone into lodgings. In many cases domestic servants seem to have little sense of honour. They arrange to take a place go away, and are not again heard of! It is not an unusual thing now for a domestic servant to stipulate for every night off, and one who made this stipulation the other day refused to take a good situation because she was doubtful about completing her work each evening by seven o'clock.
