HAYWARD'S PICTURES.
A meritorious standard was maintained by the change ol programme presented at His .laj-sty s llieat.e last evening. The "Patho ua_ette" opened tho first half, and proved as interesting as ever in its representation of current Home and Continental events. The visit of the Kaiser to Vienna, aud the monster Home ItuJo demonstration in Hyde Park were amongst t.ie special events depicted.- As a scenic "The Roman Campagna" was most attractive, but was, if anything, far too short. The comics and drama in both, parts were Tnost excellent. "Taming Terrible Ted" was of a most farcical nature, and amused the audience immensely. The "star" film of the evening, however, was presented in the second half of the programme, and proved to be a production dealing with a Spanish feud under the title of ''The Forest Dwellers." The story was woven round a desperate dispute about a legacy which lod to a bitter feud. The disappearance of valuable papers, the recovery thereof, the threats of the despoiled villain, and all tho tragic events which lead up to the dramatic denouement when the heroine Carmen comes, at. length deservedly into her own, are portrayed most realistically by a capable band of actors. Tho drama makes a big appeal to tho interest of the audience. A travel scene
"In Dauphiny," and a clever comic entitled "Tbe Schemers," concludes a programme.of decided merit, which will he repeated this.evening. The playing of the orchestra. was, as usual, of a highly enjoyable nature. There will-bo a matinee at 2,30 tomorrow afternoon. . _
