WRIT ISSUED AGAINST CAPTAIN ANDRESON.
GOVERNMENT ORDERS AN
INVESTIGATION
(Received June 2nd, 1.5 a.m.) MONTREAL, June 1. The Storstad has arrived here. Tho Canadian-Pacific Company has issued a writ against Captain Andresen claiming 2,000.000 dollars. Tho seamen on tho Storstad say that Captain Andersen was not on duty at the timo of the collision. The3' also stato that tbo Storstad was ordered astern before striking tho Empress of Ireland. Tho Government has ordered an investigation into tho disaster in conjunction with tho British Board of •Trade. The Government lias ap-, pointed Captain Lindsay, Superintndent of tho St. Lawrence pilots, to hold a preliminary investigation, tho object being to secure declarations from the survivors. Tho steamer Lady Grey has arrived with 170 bodies on hoard.
